1813: in the back room of the grocery store in Piazza Fieravecchia (now Rivoluzione) Lorenzo Tutone bottled l’anice unico, ottenuto dall’olio essenziale (anetolo) of seeds of the star anise, a tropical plant. Francesco and Alfredo took turns, the grandfather who built the factory in the years ‘30, then Ugo. From ’85 the management passes to Alfredo, now with his son Ugo Riccardo who represents the seventh generation. The young man recalls that Garibaldi sheltered in that workshop and the anise Tutone reassured the soldiers in the trenches of the Great War. The Genius of Palermo, that of Villa Giulia with the symbols of Sicily and the Golden Basin, adorns the unmistakable yellow label. The 35 and 20 cc bottles protect a delicious spirit, a vegetable-based alcoholic hydroblend to be enjoyed with water; ideal for correcting coffee or for pure sorbing; an excellent pastry complement. Tutone also produces Amaro obtained from herbs, Limoncello with Lemons from the Ciaculli Consortium, the aperitif Friscu based on orange, a line of pastry liqueurs. Ugo Riccardo and his girlfriend Francesca, passionate about history, will accompany you to the precious company museum. Work tools, antique photographs, posters, calendars, and promotional fans from a hundred years ago; a small world you'll remember the next sip of the heavenly distillate. Visits by reservation.
